Lots of reading going on this summer

The library has been a hive of activity all summer long. Lots of people enjoying the library’s computers, books, movies and programs. Some books I’ve enjoyed the last couple of weeks:

You can search for books online and place them on hold using your library card number and pin. Click here for the library catalog.

Congratulations Winners!

Congratulations to Shelly, Raneem, Shanna, Lisa and Debra, winners of the Adult Summer Reading Club weekly prize drawings. For those of you who didn’t win (and those of you who did), don’t forget to submit your book ballots for the July 30th Grand Prize drawing!

Need some ideas for summer reading? Here’s what some of the Adult Summer Reading Club members have read so far!

  • Dead of Alive: A Kevin Kerney novel by Michael McGarrity
  • Columbine by David Cullen
  • Atomic Lobster by Tim Dorsey
  •  Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
  • House on Hope Street by Danielle Steel
  • My Antonia by Willa Cather
  • Hypocrite in a pouffy white dress by Susan Jane Gilman
  • Blindspot: By a gentleman in exile and a lady in disguise by Jane Kemensky
  • Three cups of tea by Greg Mortenson
  • Act like a lady, think like a man by Steve Harvey

Flint Public Library has all of these books (and many, many more!) And don’t forget to tell us about the books you’ve read this summer.

Last week we had a wonderful performance by the Genesee Valley Concert Band. 200 people enjoyed free ice cream during the intermission. Thanks to the weather for being perfect! A good time was had by all, hope you were able to join us. If not, we have more great programming in the coming weeks.

79 people have joined the Adult Summer Reading Club this year, but, as I always say, the more the merrier! There are two more weekly prize drawings plus a grand prize drawing. Even if you read just one book, you have a chance to win a great prize!

To register, just come to any branch of the Flint Public Library or visit the following web address: http://www.fpl.info/summerreading/Adult/Registration.shtml

Historical fiction fans…..

If you like historical fiction, romances, and mysteries, you will love the new series by Deanna Raybourn. Set in England during the late 1800’s, heroine Lady Julia finds herself in the midst of many intrigues, including the suspicious death of her husband. She also falls for the dashing and debonair private investigator Nicholas Brisbane.

What I love most about the books is the witty, droll dialogue and off-beat characters. Look for all three books in the series: Silent in the Grave, Silent in the Sanctuary, and Silent on the Moor.
